ROBERTS/CHRISTIANSEN RESIDENCE
The Roberts/Christiansen’s recently purchased a one acre lot in North Salt Lake, Utah where they wanted to build their dream home. The client wanted a completely custom home design to include approximately 5,000 square feet of living space with a contemporary modern design. The client is a couple in their late 40's and they are recently empty nesters. They find themselves in a home with way too many bedrooms and the common area doesn’t feel big enough to host their family anymore. They are looking to build a home that fits their new stage of life. They like contrasting materials and colors throughout the home using whites, blacks, and wood tones. They really love natural light and want floor to ceiling windows throughout the home.
The client had requested a dining room that was large enough to fit a 12-14 top round table. They love the idea of having a dining room separate from the kitchen but wasn’t entirely closed off from the home.
For the client, cooking and having the perfect kitchen that caters to the client’s specific needs was a necessity. This kitchen was designed with all the client's needs in mind, along with a butler's pantry adjacent to the kitchen.

RETIREMENT COMMUNITY LIVING CENTER
The goal for the retirement community living center was to create an environment that caters to the elderly. The intent of the center was to focus not only on designing a space that functions as a retirement home but incorporating little details that can significantly improve the daily lives of seniors.
The building has a circular floor plan with an outside courtyard in the center, having a large outside courtyard in the center provides a central gathering space for the residents. The building has 20 resident rooms, all ADA accessible.
When space planning, it was important to include details to make sure wayfinding of the building was easy for the residents to navigate. Therefore, each section of the building is color coded with shades of contrasting blues and reds (for example: red section into dark blue section, then into orange section into light blue section). All the rooms are marked with their specific section color and room numbers are at ADA wheelchair height.

MCDERMOTT WALLPAPER SERIES
The McDermott’s, Steve and Nancy, just built their dream house in Paradise Valley, Arizona. McDermott’s house was completed in 2022 including its interiors. In the home, they have a game room that now feels unfinished compared to the rest of the home and thought wallpaper would bring some character and life to the space. The house is a mix of modern and some traditional pieces they have collected throughout their life. They love art deco style prints and were not opposed to any colors. After getting to know the McDermott’s, I proposed the idea of personalizing each wallpaper design to reflect a special meaning to them as a couple, which they loved.
The Salt Lake City wallpaper finished design and colorways bring with them playfulness and warmth. The three colorways are honey, strawberries & cream, and pistachio. The subtle color change within each colorway brings depth and variation.
For the Paradise Valley wallpaper design, I originally thought to create an abstracted aloe plant that would be a continuously connected form. As I started drawing, I found the simpler forms reflected the art deco design that
McDermott’s desired. Therefore, I focused on the silhouette of the aloe plant with details from different colors and shadows. I thought a fun contrast to the typical green aloe plant would be pink and blue colorways inspired by the Arizona skies.
The Cumming, GA wallpaper design created was most heavily inspired by art deco. The McDermott’s provided me with multiple images of the classic art deco arch. Instead of creating a design from the famous Georgia peaches, I found more inspiration in the idea of using peach blossoms and created the above design.
